I use a V-Moda boomPro mic attachment to my Sony WH-1000XM3 on the mac mini or macbook pro and my webcam (Logitech Brio) also has a USB mic which I've attached via USB-C to USB-C 3.0 cable. A powered USB hub to add onto the 2 USB-A ports is not too expensive. There is a headphone & mic (in/out) TRRS 3.5mm headphone jack which is below the USB-A ports Perhaps double check your device plugs? Were you expecting a separate mic in port? You might want a splitter for your non-mic audio devices or use USB where you can.
